Magnus Energy has secured investment from the Asia Energy Transition Platform (AETP), a Singapore-based private equity fund advised by Climate Smart Ventures, announced on 31 October 2024.
It is the first outside capital in the company's history. Magnus was incorporated in Dumaguete City in April 2019 and grew from zero — no founding capital injection, no seed round, no development finance. Every megawatt we built was funded by the margin on the megawatt before it. That taught us discipline, and it also capped how fast the solar lease book could grow, because a lease asset is a plant we pay for and recover over five to twenty years.
AETP's investment is directed at exactly that constraint: accelerating solar project delivery in the Philippines, with the lease and co-ownership portfolio as the primary use.
What did not change is instructive. We did not move headquarters to Manila. We did not replace the engineering leadership. We did not shift from being an operator to being a developer that outsources construction. The crews, the warehousing and the QA checkpoints are the same ones, in the same regions, because those are the assets an investor was underwriting in the first place.
Vikas Gattani of Climate Smart Ventures described the investment as backing a company with "a strong track record of project delivery."
For clients, an investor on the register changes nothing about who turns up on your roof. For financiers and developers evaluating us as a counterparty, it adds an independent party who has done diligence on the business and stayed.
